RedHawk women picked third in hoops race

Miami University's women's basketball team was predicted to finished third in the Mid-American Conference East Division, the conference announced at its annual media day on Oct. 18.
The RedHawks accumulated 183 points, four points shy of 2007 MAC Champions and Sweet 16 participant, Bowling Green.

Ohio was predicted to finish first, accumulating 210 points and 17 first place votes, followed by Bowling Green's 187 points and 11 first-place votes and Miami's 183 points and nine first-place votes. Rounding out the East Division, Kent State was picked to finish fourth with 137 points and one first-place nomination, while Buffalo and Akron were picked to finish fifth and sixth, respectively.
Ball State earned an impressive 36 first-place votes and was picked to win the West Division, garnering 240 points. Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan were picked to finish 2-3-4, respectively, while Toledo was picked to finish fifth and Central Michigan was picked to finish sixth.
Seven schools earned votes to win the MAC Tournament with the overwhelming majority favoring Ball State. The Cardinals earned 22 votes followed by Bowling Green with six votes. Miami and Ohio both earned five votes apiece, while Western Michigan, Buffalo and Northern Illinois each received one vote.
Miami opens its season at |9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, when the RedHawks travel to Notre Dame to face the Fighting Irish in the opening round of the WNIT.
Senior guard Amanda Jackson was named to the MAC Women's Basketball Preseason All-East Division Team.
Jackson is one of five players on the Preseason All-East Division Team joining Ohio's Lauren Kohn, Bowling Green's Kate Achter, Buffalo's Heather Turner and Akron's Sarah Tokodi.
Julie DeMuth (Ball State), Tiera Delanoussaye (Western Michigan), Prochia Green (Ball State), Jessie Wilcox (Northern Illinois) and Alyssa Pittman (Eastern Michigan) make up the Preseason All-West Division Team.
Coming off a knee injury that sidelined her for all but 10 minutes of the 2005-06 season in 2005, Jackson rebounded to lead the 2006-07 RedHawks in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game. Jackson's 17.2 ppg ranked third in the MAC in scoring and her 20.0 ppg in conference-only action ranked second in the league.
