Miami University's Laura Neufarth (Centerville High School) kept an amazing season going by capturing the Mid-American Conference individual cross country title last week.

It was Neufarth's sixth win in six races this season. Neufarth, a redshirt sophomore who originally attended Ohio State, covered the course in 17 minutes, 35.2 seconds and helped the RedHawks finish third overall.

Extras

Ohio's Kari Summers (Troy) was seventh in 17:56, and Ball State's Vanessa Gilbert (Kettering Fairmont) was 22nd in 18:30.

DiSalvo coaching at CMU

Former Carroll High School wrestling standout Mark DiSalvo has returned to his college alma mater to be an assistant coach.

A two-time All-American at Central Michigan University, DiSalvo recently left a job at Cornell to return to Mount Pleasant, Mich.

"He is a CMU guy, and that is something that is very important to me," CMU head coach Tom Borrelli said.

On campus

• The College of Wooster men's basketball team hopes to make another run to the Division III Final Four. Among the players are area graduates Craig Elam (Carroll), Marty Bidwell (Fenwick), James Cooper (Springfield South) and Kyle Molz (Fairmont).

Molz's cousin, Nick Molz, plays at Capital University. So do St. Henry's Nate Stahl and Ross Niekamp, plus New Bremen's Scott Steineman.

• Two area women are on the preseason All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South first team in basketball: Ashland's Lisa Graue (Wayne) and Findlay's Brittany Wells (Miamisburg). Last season, Graue averaged 9.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while Wells averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.7 steals.

Other local players at Ashland are Lacy Romine (Fairmont) and Jessica Minch (Centerville). Other area players at Findlay include Michelle Derr (Urbana) and Kendra Robbins (Coldwater).

• Four Urbana University women's soccer players from the area made the All-American Mideast Conference team. Forward Darby McCullough (Graham), midfielder Julie Glaser (Xenia) and defender Kristen Shope (Carroll) were named to the second team. Midfielder Abigail Nelson (Waynesville) was an honorable mention pick.

Going to school

• Centerville swimmer Lydia Hackert recently accepted a scholarship to South Carolina. In 2007, Hackert was seventh in the state in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 medley relay.
