MU tops Ohio for MAC championship

RedHawks earn berth into NCAA tourney for first time since 1998.

TOLEDO — Miami University's volleyball team is headed to the NCAA tournament.

The RedHawks earned a bid with a three-game sweep of top-seeded Ohio on Sunday in the finals of the Mid-American Conference tournament.

Led by senior Carli Reihman, the tournament MVP, the RedHawks defeated the Bobcats 30-28, 30-26, 29-27 to win their first MAC title and NCAA tourney bid since 1998.

Reihman finished with 12 kills and 10 digs to become the eighth player in Miami history with 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills. Junior Alex Ratcliff finished with a match-high 15 kills.

Reihman was joined on the all-tournament team by Ratcliff and senior Jeanna Staun.

Miami, which finished second to Ohio in the MAC East standings, improved to 19-8. Ohio fell to 25-5. The NCAA tournament begins Nov. 29.
