MIAMI NOTES
Miami notes -- Sophomore Adam Fletcher makes the most of start, shattering personal high in points
Wednesday, December 19, 2007
OXFORD — Miami sophomore Adam Fletcher was on fire, sort of, Tuesday night in Miami's 74-68 victory over Chicago State. As a result, Tim Pollitz wasn't the only RedHawk to break his career high in scoring.
Fletcher made his third start this year, replacing Tyler Dierkers, who is recovering from pneumonia, and it didn't take long for the husky, 6-foot-8 center to shatter his personal high with eight points.
Extras
In case you're wondering, Fletcher's career high was 2 points. Coming into the game, he had scored a career total of 4 and had yet to score a point this season.
Fletcher went 4-for-4 from the field and also had two assists.
Otherwise, Fletcher's numbers against the Cougars (21 minutes of playing time, one rebound, two personal fouls) were eerily similar to those of his two prior starts.
Against Xavier, he played for 11 minutes and finished with one rebound and two fouls. At Wright State, he played three minutes and finished with — you guessed it — one rebound and two fouls.
Dierkers did play a key role in Miami's win, especially in the second half. In 15 minutes off the bench he dished out six assists and had two points, two rebounds and a steal.
Another hot half
For the second straight game, the RedHawks shot over 70 percent from the floor in a half.
In last week's 58-57 loss at Wright State, Miami shot 73.9 percent (17-of-23) in the first half.
Against Illinois State, Miami shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24) in the second half.
A long road stretch
It will be almost a month before Miami's fans get to see their team in action again at Millett Hall.
The RedHawks' next five games are on the road, and they won't play another home game until Jan. 17, when they face Kent State.
