RedHawks shut down Lampley
Saturday, February 02, 2008
MUNCIE, Ind. — Junior guard Brandon Lampley made his first start in almost a month for the Ball State Cardinals in their 66-54 loss to the Miami RedHawks on Saturday.
What did not change for the former Hamilton High School standout was his shooting slump.
Extras
Not that the RedHawks gave him much of an opportunity.
The 6-foot Lampley spent much of his time on offense being guarded by Michael Bramos (who has a 5-inch, 51-pound advantage over Lampley) and occasionally by Tyler Dierkers (who has an 8-inch, 65-pound advantage).
Lampley, who helped lead the Big Blue to the Division I state championship as a senior, who was named MVP of the state Final Four that year, and who normally is a very good shooter, made two field-goal attempts and missed them both. One was blocked.
In his last 11 games, he is 1-for-18 from behind the 3-point stripe and 5-for-34 overall.
There have been, however, some bright spots for Lampley this season.
He scored a career-high 13 points at Arkansas State on Dec. 16. He sank 11-of-14 free throws against Central Michigan in the Cardinals' 82-71 victory on Jan. 13. And he has committed only 23 turnovers in 472 minutes played.

Bramos on the button
The RedHawks still have a penchant for making last-second, 3-point bank shots.
Bramos banked in a 3-pointer from halfcourt at the halftime buzzer to give the RedHawks a 32-26 lead at the break.
He launched the shot calmly, with careful deliberation, as if he were playing a friendly game of HORSE at home on his driveway.
It didn't hurt that none of the Cardinals bothered to guard Bramos.
A week at home
The road-weary RedHawks, who have played eight of their last 11 games on the road, won't have to travel this week. Both of their games are at Millett Hall.
Miami will face Toledo at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, then take on Central Michigan at 4 p.m. Saturday as the second game of a doubleheader, which starts with the Miami women's team playing Western Michigan at 2 p.m.
