This weekend, Oxford will be the center of the college hockey universe.

Miami University, ranked No. 1 nationally and holding first place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, will host No. 2 Michigan for Friday and Saturday games at Steve Cady Arena in a celebrated series for both the CCHA and all of collegiate hockey.

Having arguably the best season in school history, the RedHawks can further solidify their conference control against the Wolverines, who held the nation's top ranking for several weeks this season.

"It's one of the biggest games in program history," said Miami senior forward Nathan Davis. "You can only have five, six, seven top-notch programs in college hockey, and you have to win games like this to get there."

Miami has fared well against some of the nation's top teams, sweeping series from then-No. 12 Ohio State in October and then-No. 2 Michigan State (on the road) in November. Since their last loss against Bowling Green on Jan. 4, the RedHawks (25-3-0) have won a national-best seven straight.

Michigan (22-3-3), meanwhile, is 0-1-3 in its past four, including consecutive ties against sub-.500 Northern Michigan is its last series. Looking to retake the nation's top ranking, the Wolverines will enter Miami as the nation's second-best team in scoring and defense (Miami leads both categories).

"It," said Adam Wodon, managing editor of College Hockey News, "is the most anticipated series of the regular season."
