Buffalo's Robinson held in check again
Sunday, February 17, 2008
BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's unlikely that University of Buffalo junior guard Andy Robinson will earn a second straight Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week honor.
Robinson earned his first honor after he scored 35 points against Northern Illinois on Feb. 5.
Extras
On Wednesday, Feb. 13, however, Robinson was held to 10 points in Buffalo's 76-67 loss to Ball State, and in the setback against the Miami RedHawks, he was no match against the smothering defense of Michael Bramos.
"Michael did a good job on him," Miami coach Charlie Coles said.
Robinson hit just one of his first six field-goal attempts, and although he finished with 13 points in 27 minutes of court time, which doesn't sound so bad, 11 of those points came in the final three minutes after Miami had blown the game wide open and Coles had cleared his bench. Only two of his points came in his first 24 minutes against Bramos.
Robinson's lowest scoring output of the season came at Millett Hall, when he went 0-for-7 from the field and finished with two points in Miami's 64-57 victory on Jan. 20. That gives Robinson a scoring average of 6.5 points against Miami and 18.3 points against the rest of the MAC.
Eric the Red
Miami's Eric Pollitz has scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time in his collegiate career.
Eric, the less prolific scorer of the Pollitz twins — Tim came into the game averaging 16.1 points; Eric came in averaging 4.8 — finished with 10 points against Buffalo after having scored 11 Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Western Michigan.
In those two games, he combined to nail 4-of-5 shots from behind the 3-point arc.
Paying respects
A moment of silence was observed prior to the game "to remember those who have died and those who were affected by the tragic events that took place at Northern Illinois University" on Thursday, Feb. 14, when five students were killed and 21 others were wounded by a gunman at the Mid-American Conference school.
Northern Illinois canceled all of its athletic events this weekend, including the men's basketball home game against Western Michigan scheduled for today, Feb. 17.
Next up
Miami will play a Tuesday night game for the second consecutive week when the Akron Zips come to Millett Hall on Feb. 19. The tipoff will be at 7:30.
