Frontcourt mate Stephanie Ford added eight points and 11 boards for MU (21-10), while Amanda Jackson tallied 17 points and seven steals.
"As a senior and as a post player, I just want to give the team whatever I can," Markwood said. "Just knowing that teams are going to focus on (Jenna) Schone and Jackson, I just know that I need to be big and give anything I can. Today, my teammates gave me great passes, and I finished."
The RedHawks overcame 21 turnovers and 35.0-percent shooting by converting 19-of-23 free throws, 12-of-13 in the last seven minutes.
Tiera DeLaHoussaye (14), Amanda Parker (13), Brenna Banktson (11), Ebony Cleary (10) and Sara Vest (10) all scored in double figures for the Broncos, who finished 13-19.
"We had a hard time in the beginning of the game stopping them," Miami coach Maria Fantanarosa said. "They slowed us down. I'm going to blame it a little bit on the week off, but not take away anything from Western Michigan in any way.
"We are excited to be advancing right now," she added. "Hopefully the way we played at the end of the game, playing together as a team with different people stepping up, will give us confidence going into Friday."
MU, seeded second in the MAC's East Division, will meet Toledo in the semifinals at noon Friday, March 14. The Rockets, No. 5 West Division seeds, upset West co-champion Ball State 65-60 on Tuesday.
