OXFORD — Miami University football coach Shane Montgomery and his staff will begin their search for five new starters when spring practice begins today, March 27, at Yager Stadium.
The RedHawks, who finished 6-7 last season, shared the Mid-American Conference East Division title and advanced to the MAC Championship Game, have three openings on offense — left tackle, center and running back — and two on defense — end and cornerback.
Extras
One of the most interesting position battles of the spring will come at quarterback between junior Daniel Raudabaugh, the returning starter, and redshirt freshman Clay Belton.
"We've got to become more consistent in our overall play at quarterback," Montgomery said. "Daniel definitely did some good things last season, but he had his ups and downs. He'll be a lot better this spring because this is his third full year in our system. Clay Belton is coming in with a lot of potential. He's a very smart young man and is physically gifted. Clay will get better and better with the more reps he gets."
About 80 players, including 46 returning lettermen, will participate in today's first workout. The RedHawks will participate in 14 practices over the next month. The spring game is set for April 25.
