Wednesday, April 02, 2008
OXFORD — It was quite a Wednesday, April 2, for Miami senior Ryan Jones.
Jones was named one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker Award — college hockey's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy — and signed a multi-year contract with the Minnesota Wild.
Extras
Jones scored 31 goals this season to lead the RedHawks to a school-record 33 wins and a third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Michigan's Kevin Porter and Boston College's Nathan Gerbe also are finalists for the Hobey. The winner will be announced April 11.
Jones was a fourth-round draft pick of the Wild in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He will be assigned to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Terms of the deal were not announced.
