OXFORD — The Miami University men's basketball team lost a veteran guard but gained a recruit who might provide what the RedHawks never really had the last two seasons — a true point guard.

Miami has received a national letter of intent from Kramer Soderberg, a 6-foot, 180-pound point guard from St. Charles, Mo., Miami interim head coach Jermaine Henderson announced Tuesday, May 20.

"What he'll bring is stability to the point guard position," Henderson said. "He's a true point guard, and the best thing about him is that he's a hard worker.

"He's pretty good now and I think he'll help us immensely next year," Henderson added, "and he'll give us what we need in the future. What we lack is a point guard."

Soderburg was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Missouri in 2008 after averaging 24.4 points and 4.6 assists as a senior and shooting 46 percent from the 3-point arc and 85.4 percent from the foul line.

The scholarship became available when sophomore guard Alex Moosmann decided to transfer.

"I think that was a situation where he just wanted to be closer to home," Henderson said of Moosman, who is from the St. Louis, Mo. area.

Moosmann played in 66 games and started 52 of them in his two seasons with the RedHawks. Last season he averaged 3.1 points per game.

Henderson said he doesn't know to which school Moosmann intends to transfer.

Soderberg is Miami's second recruit. Julian Mavunga signed a national letter of intent in the fall.
