OXFORD — Miami University announced on Wednesday, June 25, the hiring of assistant hockey coach Brent Brekke.

Brekke spent the last nine seasons as an assistant at Cornell University, helping the Big Red compile a 185-90-30 record and a trip to the 2003 Frozen Four. He also coached and was director of player personnel for two seasons for the Chicago Freeze of the United States Hockey League.

"We are very excited to have Brent join our coaching staff," Miami coach Enrico Blasi said. "For the past nine years, he's been an integral part of Cornell's success. He brings a great deal of experience and knowledge."

Brekke played four seasons at Western Michigan and was a ninth-round selection (188th overall) of the Quebec Nordiques in 1991.

He replaces Jeff Blashill, who recently was named general manager and head coach of the Indiana Ice of the USHL.
