DAYTON — Sinclair Community College star Mark Anderson has verbally committed to continue his basketball career next year at Miami University.

Anderson, who helped Dunbar High School win the Division II state championship in 2006, is the second former Dunbar star to recently decide on an NCAA Division I college. Aaron Pogue, the center on the Wolverines' title team, will play this season for Cleveland State.

Anderson, who averaged 26 points per game last season and was named a Division II Junior College All-America, has one more season at Sinclair and will join the RedHawks next year.

"Miami has six seniors this year, so when Mark walks in next year as a junior he gets to inherit a rebuilding process," Sinclair coach Jeff Price said. "Hopefully it's a situation where he can be a big cog in the wheel."

Price said that Anderson also seriously considered Marshall, West Virginia and Michigan.

The University of Dayton showed interest, but did not have a scholarship available.

"Dayton said, 'We would love to have an opportunity to recruit this guy, but we don't have a scholarship available,' " Price said. "Dayton's classy; they're not going to lead a kid along."

Price said Anderson was high on East Tennessee early in the recruiting process and also looked at Bowling Green, Murray State and Tennessee-Chattanooga.

"He's a wonderful kid to coach," Price said. "In my 18 years at the college level, he's in my top five of genuine people to coach and he's probably the best athlete I've coached."
