Bennett, Harris named MAC East players of the week

Staff reports

OXFORD — Miami’s Ben Bennett and Eugene Harris have been named Mid-American Conference East Division Players of the Week.

Making his first start of his collegiate career, Bennett made a game-changing play in the fourth quarter when he leaped high to snag his first collegiate interception at the 1-yard line, then returned it 78 yards to set up Miami’s game-winning two-play, 21-yard scoring drive in the RedHawks’ 38-37 win over Charleston Southern. The sophomore also added three solo tackles and one assisted stop.

Harris, also a sophomore, had a 44-yard punt return for a touchdown late in the third quarter. It was RedHawks’ first punt return TD since 2006 when Ryne Robinson did it vs. Cincinnati in 2006. Harris also led Miami in receiving last Saturday with four catches for 51 yards.
