MIAMI FOOTBALL

Bye week good timing for banged-up RedHawks

By Pete Conrad

OXFORD — It's just as well that Miami University's football team doesn't play this weekend. The RedHawks are a little on the bruised side.

A handful of players have missed practice this week due to nagging injuries, none of them considered long term, but most of them affecting an offensive line already considered relatively thin.

Senior outside linebacker Clayton Mullins (knee) "is banged up a bit, but he's OK," Miami coach Shane Montgomery said. "We'll hold him out a couple days. He's been very sore the last couple days, but he should be fine."

The right arm of offensive lineman Dave DiFranco was in a sling. "He's beat up a little bit," Montgomery said. If we were playing this week be would be questionable."

Offensive lineman Brandon Brooks has turf toe. Montgomery said he hopes he will be back to full strength by the beginning of next week.

Offensive lineman Bob Gulley, who has missed the last two games with an injury to his shin, "should be back," according to Montgomery.

He added that there is "an outside chance" free safety Jordan Gafford, who has missed a couple games with a leg injury, will return in time for the game against Temple.

No more Miller time

Sophomore running back Jamal Miller has left the team, Montgomery acknowledged Tursday.

"I don't know what he's doing," Montgomery said. "He said he wanted to take the rest of the semester to think about what he wants to do."

Miller played in one game and caught one pass for 3 yards. He had no rushing attempts.
