Crist leads MU golfers to tourney win
BEALLSVILLE, Md. — Miami University senior Aaron Crist fired a 70-74—144 to finish second overall in the 12-team Georgetown Intercollegiate golf tournament, held Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Three other RedHawk team members finished among the top-20 tournament golfers to lead Miami to the overall win. Nathan Sutherland finished fourth overall, Ben Bastel was sixth and Valley View High School graduate Anthony Cordes was 16th overall.
The RedHawks beat second-place William & Mary by five strokes. Richmond was third, nine strokes back. The tourney win was Miami's first since they lay claim to the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate tournament on Sept. 24-25, 2007.
Crist, a graduate of Middletown High School, finished one stroke behind tournament medalist Doug Hurson of William & Mary. It was Crist's best finish of his career. His previous best of seventh was also at the Colbert Collegiate event in 2007.
The tournament was originally scheduled for three rounds, but was shortened to two because of frost. Miami's next event will be the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Oct. 27-28 in Las Cruces, N.M.
