FAIRBORN — Miami University Director of Athletics Brad Bates is staying tight-lipped about the future of Miami head football coach Shane Montgomery, whose team will wrap up a third consecutive losing season Friday, Nov. 28 at home against Ohio.
Bates declined to comment Monday night, Nov. 24, at the Nutter Center, where he was watching the Miami-Wright State basketball game, about whether Miami would make a coaching change with Montgomery, who is in the final year of his contract.
"Shane and I have had on-going discussions throughout the course of the year, and we'll have another one this week, said Bates, who talks informally with Montgomery every week, often following mid-week practice sessions.
The RedHawks are 2-9 this season, 1-6 in the Mid-American Conference. Montgomery, who is in his fourth season as the Miami head coach, has a 17-30 record. His teams, however, have earned two shares of the MAC East Division Championship, in 2005 and 2007.

I’m in agreement. I have watched Miami play many times over the past four years and don’t consider Shayne to be a very good coach. But what can you expect from someone from NC State. Now that his contract is up, should Miami offer him another? NO! MU should let Shayne Montgomery go. A 17-31 record is just not up to Miami’s standards.

I have been at all home games since 1998. This season was especially disappointing to say the least. You can see the great talent there. Nobody, incl Shane, seems to have explanations. It is the coach’s job to be able to motivate. Very clearly, Shane does NOT and cannot motivate that group. He may have a good heart, but his offensive plays, his teams’ poor performance, and his lack of understanding of his players is an indication of his effectiveness. Shane should resign!

The RedHawks failed, big time, to live up to their potential. The coach and his staff must take responsibility for this. Clearly, it’s time for a change.

Hey bababooey…. You know little about college football. Purdue already has a “coach in waiting” in place and have had for almost a year. You can count on Kelly to be as good as gone. Tennessee is going to show him the money that Cincinnati can’t/won’t. Why wouldn’t Kelly jump at the chance to coach in the SEC? As far as Miami is concerened, they need to do something to restore the once great tradition of Miami Football. Shane must go.

Miami should go after Kerry Coobs before UC does. If Kelly leaves, Coombs’ is a natural to replace him at UC. Coach Hepp and Big Ben has been a hard act to follow for Shane and it would be for the best interest for all that he is not retained. Shane’s a good man and he will do well in a different setting.

I have on the East Coast so can only observe Miami from afar, but reading articles in the Journal News, the Miami Student and HawkTalk it appears he has lost the team. Two 2-10 records in three seasons just won’t do. One of the reasons I chose to go to Miami from New York was its traditions. Scholastically and athletically I knew Miami would be a good place to learn and also enjoy Division I sports, albeit at a level a notch below the Big 10. I always exult when Miami produces winning seasons.

Shane must go. He never was a good coach and never will be. Miami may never find a guy like coach Hep.

Kelly will be a strong candidate for the Purdue job. Tennessee is too big of a jump. Remember, her began in Michigan. Purdue is close and he has a following. Fulmer and Tiller do have something in common…both are heart attacks waiting to happen.

Change is in the air in Oxford. Time to get a Miami guy to lead the Redhawks.

Kelly very well might go, but we would be kidding ourselves if we believed it would be for any reason other than money. After two seasons he is poised to take his team to their first BCS bowl. He would not have this great of a chance at tenny. I don’t understand all the haters. Everyone screaming that Boise or Ball state get a BCS bowl over UC is crazy. Who have these teams played? The Big East is competetive, and we should finish this season 11-2, with three wins over top 25 teams.

Dantonio wishes he was half the coach Kelly is. If you are going to bring in a former high school coach I would go with Mike Dodge at North Texas. He came from Southlake Carrol in Texas and runs a very similar offense. I think the fact he could recruit in Texas would be huge in the Big East.

If Shane is back at Miami I am going to wear a paper bag on my head to every game. There is no excuse for Miami not to Have a winning record, be bowl eligible, and be in the running for a MAC Championship every year. Shane: 2005 won a disappointing 7 games despite being one of the most talented teams in the conference and no bowl bid, 2006 a miserable 2-10 but got a pass because of injuries, 2007 a miserable 6-7 lucked into the MACC and got beat down, 2008 WITH ALL SHANES GUYS 2-10.

If Kelly leave UC, they already have a coach in place, Colerain’s Kerry Coombs. He is in his 2nd year at UC now. Why would anyone pick a high school coach when you know what Coombs did at Colerain plus the experience he already has in two years at UC.

Kelly is overrated. Riding Dantonio’s back. Look at Michigan State in only there second year under Dantonio and recruiting wise he was riding anyones back. Also there in the Big East or what should be called the Big Easy! UC fans and Kelly need to glad they are not in the SEC or Big Ten. Time will tell but it will be a Win for Kelly but a mistake by UT if they sign him.

Kelly Can get UC to the BCS championship game faster than he could at UT or somewhere else.Run the table with the Bearcats and you would think it would give them a good shot. How many SEC teams run the table? As for the situation in Oxford, sometimes it is just time for a change and I’m sure that the alumni think it’s time.
