Miami starts football season against UK

Staff Report

Friday, March 27, 2009

OXFORD — Miami University will open its football season against the Kentucky Wildcats at Cincinnati's Paul Brown Stadium on Sept. 5, Athletic Director Brad Bates announced Thursday, March 26.

The contest will be considered a home game for the RedHawks, who also will play five games at Yager Stadium.

Miami also will play nonconference games Sept. 12 at Boise State, Oct. 3 at home against Cincinnati and Oct. 10 at Northwestern.

All four nonconference foes appeared in bowl games last season and had a cumulative record of 39-14. Boise State went 12-0 during the regular season before losing to TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl.

"This schedule is a great opportunity to see how much we've improved from last season to this season," first-year Miami coach Mike Haywood said. "Playing six of our first eight games against teams that played in bowl games last year will be challenging, but we're going to embrace this opportunity."

Miami was supposed to host Colorado on ESPN this season in the return game of a home-and-home series. Miami played at Colorado in 2007.

Toledo replaces Miami on the Colorado schedule after Miami and several other MAC schools adjusted their nonconference schedules. The Buffaloes will travel to Toledo on Sept. 4 in a matchup coordinated by the MAC and ESPN.

Miami's home games against MAC opponents will be Oct. 24 against Northern Illinois, Oct. 31 against Toledo, Nov. 12 against Bowling Green and Nov. 18 against Buffalo.

Six of Miami's first seven games will be away from Yager Stadium, including the home-designated contest against Kentucky (which will be included in Miami's six-game season-ticket package).

The RedHawks' MAC road schedule will consist of trips Sept. 19 to Western Michigan, Sept. 26 to Kent State, Oct. 17 to Ohio and Nov. 15 to Temple.

Season tickets for the six home games are $120 for the general public and $105 for Miami faculty and staff. They can be ordered online at www.MURedHawks.com or in person at Millett Hall at (513) 529-4295.

The RedHawks are in their first week of spring practice and will play the annual Red and White Spring Game at Yager Stadium at 1 p.m. on April 18.
