Miami's Blasi up for top honor

OXFORD — Miami University hockey coach Enrico Blasi is one of nine finalists for the American Hockey Coaches Association's Spencer Penrose Award given annually to the top NCAA Division I men's hockey coach.
Blasi has guided the RedHawks to their first Frozen Four appearance. Miami faces Bemidiji State at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the national semifinals at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
Blasi won the award in 2005-06 after Miami earned its first No. 1 rankings and caputred the Central College Hockey Association regular-season title for the just the second time in program history. Former RedHawks' coach George Gwozdecky won the award in 1992-93.
Blasi is 209-150-33 in 10 seasons at Miami, making him the program's all-time winningest coach.
The Spencer Penrose Award winner will be announced Saturday, April 25, at the AHCA year-end banquet in Naples, Fla.
