Ohio State senior guard Brandie Hoskins will miss the rest of the basketball season after tearing her left Achilles' tendon Thursday in the Buckeyes' 70-67 win at Minnesota, the school said.

Hoskins, a Chaminade-Julienne High School graduate and the team's second-leading scorer, was injured late in the first half. Ohio State coach Jim Foster said Hoskins knew what had happened as she left the court.

Eleven months earlier, she tore her other Achilles' tendon during the NCAA tournament.

Ex-University of Dayton basketball player Darnell Hoskins, Brandie's cousin, said he talked to Brandie's father, Alan, on Friday.

"He said he didn't know what to say to her because she's so down in the dumps," Darnell said. "While she's very disappointed, she understands that she still has a future in front of her with basketball."

"I think Brandie's grown up a lot over the years," Foster said. "She had tweaked her weaknesses and made them strengths and become very vocal, a good leader. She maximized her potential, (not) just in terms of basketball. She grew as a person."

Hoskins averaged 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game for the fourth-ranked Buckeyes. Hoskins tentatively is scheduled to have surgery Monday, said Ohio State spokesman Pat Kindig.
