Q&A with tight end Jake Ballard

Saturday, September 29, 2007

Q What are people back home in Springboro saying about you playing so much?

A "I was home in the summer, and a lot of times people stopped me and said, 'Congratulations on last season.' A lot of my friends are surprised to see me playing this much. People are really backing me."

Extras

Q What do you do to relax?

A "If I'm not in football season, I play basketball. I'll play pickup games with Robbie Schoenhoft and J.D. Larson, two of my good friends on the team. During the season, I just hang around my house, playing video games and watching TV."

Q What kind of music do you like?

A "Toby Keith and definitely Garth Brooks."

Q Garth is making an album but not touring?

A "Yeah, I was disappointed about that. If he was touring, I'd pay any amount to be at that concert."

Q You seem like a pickup-truck kind of guy.

A "I drive a Ford Bronco, a '96. It has 108,000 (miles). We found a good deal."

Q With just four comp tickets to each game, who gets them?

A "One or both parents. Everything after that, my mom (Debby) picks and chooses who she wants to give them to — other family members and friends."

Q What's it like having a twin brother (fraternal twin Josh plays football at Morehead State)?

A "Growing up, we competed a lot. We'd play pickup (football) games in the front yard with our dad being the all-time quarterback. Once we got older, we became like best friends. After we're done with our seasons, hopefully, he'll come up and stay at my house a lot or I'll go down there."

Q How many times have you seen your fingertip TD grab from last year?

A "A lot. I was real excited about that catch, and I'm really glad I got my first touchdown like that. But people ask me about it now, and I tell them, 'I'm moving on from there and trying to do some more things.' "
