Miller's Mic: Defense wins championships
Sunday, October 07, 2007
All this week we have heard Saturday's game against Purdue will be the Buckeyes' biggest test.
We had the Big Ten's No. 1 defense (Ohio State) going against the No. 1 offense (Purdue). Every since I began playing football with the Little Tigers, I've always heard defense wins championships.
Extras
A shutout through the first half was proof of the Buckeyes' dominance.
Each week, Buckeyes quarterback Todd Boeckman continues to impress me. On Saturday his touchdown pass to Ray Small couldn't have been more perfect. Quarterbacks are taught to throw the deep fade towards the outside shoulder of the wide receiver and two to four yards from the sideline. Nothing makes a wide receiver happier than catching the deep ball in stride.
Purdue QB Curtis Painter led the Big Ten with 19 interceptions in 2006, and he has improved this season. On the other hand the Boilermakers, have been compared to OSU in regards to soft schedules thus far.
Throughout the season Purdue has always started out on fire in the first half, then ice cold during the second. The Boilermakers couldn't turn things around in the second half against OSU.
Week in and week out the Buckeyes continue to get better on both sides of the ball, I expect that to continue next week versus Kent State. GO BUCKS! O-H-I-O!
South High School graduate and former Ohio State wide receiver Dee Miller is back for his second year of sharing his thoughts with the News-Sun on Buckeyes games.
