What's next for Buckeyes?
Sunday, November 11, 2007
Kirk Barton, the Ohio State offensive tackle, put the Buckeyes' loss Saturday to Illinois in perspective:
"The most unfortunate thing is that it came at the end of the year. Obviously with the polls and whatnot, it's a lot harder to move back up when you lose at the end of the year than when you lose at the beginning. A lot of the teams that will probably go ahead of us have one loss, but they lost in the middle or the beginning of the year. It doesn't look as good in the pollsters' eyes when you lose at home late in the season."

What's possible now for Ohio State? The Buckeyes can ...
Beat Michigan next week and win the outright Big Ten title. Ohio State won the outright title last season, its first unshared championship since 1984.
Beat Michigan and go to the Rose Bowl as the Big Ten champion. Not a bad consolation, to some.
Lose to Michigan, end the season with two straight losses and wait for an invitation to another Big Ten-affiliated bowl.
But barring a run of upsets, there will be no shot at a national title.
