PHOENIX — Middletown's Cris Carter didn't get the call from the hall.

Carter, 42, was among 17 finalists hoping to be voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Three players with ties to the Washington Redskins, cornerback Darrell Green, receiver Art Monk and defensive back Emmitt Thomas, a senior nominee who was a coach with Washington, were among the six players to receive the requisite 80 percent of the votes. The others: defensive end Fred Dean, linebacker Andre
Tippett and offensive tackle Gary Zimmerman.
Carter's omission was the most surprising. Many considered Carter, a first-year nominee, a lock to make it to Canton this year. His 1,101 receptions and 130 touchdown catches are second all-time and he has 282 more receptions and 30 more touchdown catches than any receiver in the Hall.
Among current members, only James Lofton's 14,004 receiving yards surpass the 13,899 by Carter.
Green, also a first-year nominee, was asked if he was surprised Carter was not among those elected.
"Extremely," he said. "Extremely surprised. We are good friends and Cris was the only guy I communicated with throughout this whole process."
Kent Somers from The Arizona Republic, one of 44 voters, expected Carter to receive enough votes.
"I was surprised," Somers said. "I went in thinking he and Darrell Green, the two first-year guys, definitely would have gotten in."
Somers speculated that some voters may have decided it was time for Monk, who was a nominee for the eighth time, to be rewarded.
"Whether or not that impacted Cris Carter, I don't know," Somers said.
If so, the numbers are not even close.
Monk had 940 receptions, 161 fewer than Carter; 12,721 yards, 1,178 fewer than Carter, and 68 touchdown catches, 62 fewer than Carter. Both played 16 seasons. Monk played 14 years for the Redskins and finished up with the New York Jets and Philadelphia. Carter played with the Eagles and Minnesota before finishing his career with Miami.
Carter, who was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1990s, was selected to play in eight Pro Bowls (1993-2000 seasons).
Before he starred in the NFL, Carter also was a standout at Ohio State and Middletown High School.

There’s alot of more deserving players than him waiting to get in, he will eventually. Why would anyone think he shouldn’t wait his turn.

It goes to show just how much this lame committee hates the vikings amd broncos. C.C is and always will be better than Monk. He deserved to be in. And then there is Randall McDaniel not getting in.He was the best guard outside of John Hannah ever. This is the only explanation I can think of why these players as well as Mick Tingelhoff, Jim Marshall, Randy Gradishar, and Karl Mecklenberg are not in.

I must admit that when I first heard the results, I was mad. How could the NFL do this to ‘arguably’ the best receiver to play the game? The answer was, and still is, quite easily. They overlook people all of the time. Whether Cris Carter ultimately gets into the NFL hall of fame or not, he is already a member of the real hall of fame: God’s! His name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, where no SPORTSWRITER who never played the game, has a vote.
We praise God for that.

Cris has the best hands ever with the numbers to back them up. The voters are clueless and should be bannned from voting after this year…They just made a mockery of the Hall of Fame……I wont even get into Randy Gradishar. Yes I will get into him also…….He was a 7 time Pro Bowler and 1977 NFL Defensive Player of the year. Just because he wasnt a dirty player or talked trash like others doesnt mean he wasnt better then all his peers when he was playing. He was a model football player.

Please, as fans we are always reminded by sportswriters that we are not in the know and as knowlegeable as they wehen it comes to sports. Well their big egos are showing because all fans know that Cris is a HOFer and they are just keeping at bay for their own little reasons because if they knew football he would be in. He made mistakes then became man of the year how much better can it get.

While Carter richly deserved to get in basesd on his career. The old fogies who do the voting will make him wait a year due to some old transgressions in Philly and in Columbus. These self righteous people who never played a game in their life sit in judgement on much better people such as Carter who corrected his problems and has paid society back many times over.

I couldn’t believe he didn’t get in. His numbers alone should have guaranteed it. Makes you wonder about the politics of it all. Disappointing.

Maybe Cris should have not snorted the endzone line and he might have got in. Monk never got caught with drugs.
