Ohio State, Tennessee to meet on football field

Comment: Do you like Ohio State playing games like these?

By the Associated Press

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Ohio State and Tennessee have scheduled a two-year football series for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

The Volunteers will host the Buckeyes in the Sept. 1, 2018, season opener and will travel to Columbus on Sept. 7, 2019.

Extras

Tennessee has faced Ohio State only once before, a 20-14 win by the Vols in the 1996 Florida Citrus Bowl. The teams entered that game tied for fourth in The Associated Press poll.

The 2018 game in Knoxville will be the first regular-season game between Ohio State and a team from the Southeast Conference since before World War II.

The Buckeyes are a well-documented 0-9 against the SEC in bowl games, including two straight setbacks in the BCS championship game.

Look at the big ten. Three teams in the top six of all time wins. sec none. In 06 the big ten was 2-1 in bowls against the sec. What if osu had a home game in the bcs like lsu did last year? Wow! Could the sec come play in big ten country in late oct. or nov. I don’t think so. In 06 what if florida played osu in nov. The score could of been 41-13 OSU. 52 days is long lay off. OSU will be very tuff any time they play the sec. The sec is so over rated. The BIG TEN is very under rated! Go Bucks!!!

It is great that the Bucks will be playing the Vols. They are finally starting to play some solid Non Conference games. Playing USC and Miami (FLA) the next 4 years is great. Maybe we can focus on larger non-copnference games for the future. Not to take anything away from who we have played the last few years, but as a national powerhouse, the Bucks need to play solid competition year in and year out. Go Bucks!

I love all you haters. OSU tries to schedule Powerhouse SEC Teams every year, yet none will travel up here to play in weather under 60. We play a powerhouse every year. granted last year Washington was overrated but we scheduled them when they were tops and just won the Rose bowl. Kinda funny how we get bashed for MAC teams and such but the SEC play crap OOC every year. All you guys ever do is schedule tune-up games… Remember Texas? USC next 2 years? So keep playing Louisiana Monroe and FIU.

Here I’m still stuck in Col’s & hoping Tenn doesn’t wear those long spikes that OSU is still crying about, ie than last time Tenn beat the BUCKS.

What took OSU so long? How about playing their neighbor UK instead of concentrating on the MAC to pad their schedule.

Who ever the idiots are ranting that it doesnt take place until 2018 should do the homework…we cant get it any sooner because of teams like…USC, and Miami, then Cal and then Va Tech. Oh and there were two games against Texas a few years ago…OSU is playing quality teams and other “big” schools should do the same

What a great non-conference schedule in the upcoming years! 2008 @ USC 2009 vs. USC 2010 vs. Miami (FL) 2011 @ Miami (FL) 2012 vs. Cal and UC 2013 @ Cal 2014 vs. UC and Virginia Tech 2015 @ Virginia Tech 2016 @ Oklahoma 2017 vs. Oklahoma 2018 @ Tennessee 2019 vs. Tennessee

This should put all the critics to rest, saying that OSU doesn’t play a hard schedule.

Ok, I’m a Michigan man (so take care of those Appalachian State jokes now), but I think a series like this is what college football is supposed to be about. Look at hoops. You actually enhance your season, even if you lose a great matchup. I hate seeing the Michigans and OSUs having their fans pay $100 to see them play Findlay Tech just to keep them in the hunt for the title. I like seeing OSU play Tennessee and hope both are just as good by the time they finally get to play.

It’s a good news, while it is a bad one. We have to wait for 10 years to see the game. It’s a long time. I hope I can remember it 10 years later. LOL. i don’t know if I still have time to watch the game with those football fans whom I met at the bbw dating network bigpersonal.com.

osu is 7-10-2 all time vs. SEC teams. The Buckeyes play home and home with USC next two years, Home and home with The U (miami,fl) two after that and Oklahoma two after that. Youngstown is the first 1AA team they’ve ever scheduled and it was done as a favor to them for giving Tressell his start as a head coach.

I believe that Ohio State played LSU in a home and home series back in the latter half of the 1980’s. If my memory serves me correct, Ohio State went to LSU for the first game, and was completely homered by the SEC referees. The game ended up in a 13-13 tie. The following year the Buckeyes came from behind in the fourth quarter, and beat LSU on a Bobby Olive touchdown reception! It sure looks like the knucklehead Buckeye Bashers at ESPN have overlooked the series that took place in 1987 & 1988

Great! I loved the home and home series against Texas. Just wish we could buy out some weak teams and get Tennessee moved up to a better date. Then again, check some SEC schedules and tell me they are not playing the Southern version of Youngstown State.

2018? What a joke. 10 years to schedule a real team? They must be waiting the next 9 years for Wright State to get a team. Thier shedule is a joke. That is why they get hammered in the bowl games. They play 11 chumps all year and their stupid fan base gets excited and then they get drilled. OSU is a paper tiger.

2018 is the earliest? Guess buying out Youngstown State and one MAC opponent per year is too much for tosu to dole out. Cheapskates.

It is hard to get excited about something that won’t take place for 9-10 years. Are the schedules made that far in advance?

Hey SEC people….OSU is 0-9 vs. the SEC in BOWL GAMES. Are the bowl games the biggest games? Yes. But to think that OSU has lost ALL games vs. SEC opponents is ignorant. I felt like I should throw that out there. Certainly the SEC has had a much better record and played much better in recent years - but it hasn’t always been that way. It’s also nice to see an SEC schoool agreeing to play a real out of conference opponent.

Yes, its about time Tressel finally played someone, scheduling teams like Texas, USC, West Virginia was getting old.

John, I believe you are mistaken. I think 30 is the number of times you are allowed to have sex with your sister until it becomes illegal

Tennessee vs Ohio State is a natural home and home seasonal attraction. Both teams have large stadiums, excellent fan base and it will be great to see them compete. Also would like to see other SEC teams play the Buckeyes on a regular home and home deal.

Nostradamas- hey that’s good one, the 30 bit. It’s funny you say that because isn’t that the total number of teeth the whole state of Tennessee has?

I predicted a few years back that Ohio State would actually schedule a non conference opponent that wasn’t a tune-up game for ole tressel. OH and 9 against the sec…how old is your QB gonna be this year 30?

It’s about time the powers that be in Columbus got some nuggets and played the SEC.
