THE LOCALS
Kurt Coleman, Jr., safety, Northmont High School
Extras
Snuck in front of receiver Brian Hartline to intercept a Todd Boeckman pass on the game's third play, as he quickly adds soft hands to his hard hitting.
Marcus Freeman, Sr., linebacker, Wayne High School
Finished with seven tackles, continuing to pair with senior James Laurinaitis to give the Buckeyes arguably the nation's best linebacking corps.
Ross Homan, Soph., linebacker, Coldwater High School
Not only did he knock the helmet off of tight end Rory Nicol on a second-quarter catch, but the junior who missed much of last season with a foot injury later intercepted Boeckman.
Brandon Saine, Soph., running back, Piqua High School
Although he didn't do much rushing, Saine nearly completed a fake-punt pass. The spiral was true and distance accurate, but tight end Jake Ballard couldn't bring it down.
Todd Denlinger, Jr., defensive tackle, Troy High School
Recorded a sack and two other tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
Austin Spitler, Jr., linebacker, Bellbrook High School
Led the Scarlet team with five tackles.
OTHERS WHO IMPRESSED
Brian Hartline, Jr., receiver
Finished with six catches for 82 yards and a touchdown in continuing a stellar spring, especially with fellow receiver Brian Robiskie out with injury.
Dan Herron, Fr., running back
Struggling for attention in a deep pool of backs, Herron rushed 10 times for 30 yards and scored a touchdown. He showed quickness, speed and power when needed.
Andre Amos, Jr., cornerback
In leading the scrimmage with eight tackles, Amos showed he continues to return from the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered last spring.
OSU athletic department
For giving Tyson Gentry, the former walk-on receiver partially paralyzed two years ago, seats in the visiting coaches' box with a headset to listen in on coach-player conversations.
