Scouting the Hoosiers
2007: 7-6, 3-5 Big Ten
Last 5 years: 21-38, 9-31
Last bowl: 2007 Insight Bowl, 49-33 loss to Oklahoma State
Coach: Bill Lynch
Starters returning: 6, 7
Positive vibes: The Hoosiers are coming off their first postseason since the 1993 Independence Bowl. They also return one of the conference's most exciting players in junior QB Kellen Lewis (3,043 yards, 28 TDs passing, 736 yards rushing last season).
Negative vibes: It takes more than one season to turn around a losing tradition. Plus, Indiana lost its biggest playmaker in 6-foot-7 receiver James Hardy (79 catches, 1,125 yards).
By the Numbers
568: Rushing yards by returning senior Marcus Thigpen, the Hoosiers' non-QB leader in the category.
19: Team interceptions last season, which led the Big Ten (helped by 6 by departed Tracy Porter).
709: Team penalty yards (an average of 54.5), which also led the Big Ten.
