Chris Wells sits out Buckeyes' practice

COMMENT: Are you worried about Beanie Wells' health?

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells didn't practice with the second-ranked Buckeyes on Monday.

Wells injured his right foot in Saturday's 43-0 victory over Youngstown State. He continues to wear a protective boot on his right foot.

Wells fell to the turf on a carry at the Youngstown State 2-yard line in the third quarter. After lying on the field in pain, he was helped off and then carted to the locker room.

X-rays after the game did not show any broken bones.

Ohio State football information director Shelly Poe said in an e-mail late Monday afternoon that Wells has been diligent in taking treatments from athletic trainers. But Poe says team officials aren't sure when a diagnosis or prognosis will be made.

Here is the up-side and the down-side as I see it.

Up-Side: Maybe now they will stop worrying about Heisman trophies and play to win instead of worrying about getting their Heisman candidate an additional carry in a game that was meaningless. We had the lead and Beanie already had 100+ yards. I love Jimmy but come on coach take out your stud after he hits 100+ in a pickup game when bigger things are just weeks away.

Yes, because he seems prone to foot injuries. He’s a big guy who can be successful just running over people. He needs to learn quickly that he shouldn’t try to get cute with the sharp moves. He’s not Barry Sanders. He’s more of a Franco Harris or John Brockington. At least they have the #1 RB coming in from Miami Florida next year.

Keep him out of the Ohio U game coming up. Keep rehabing it. Get him ready for SC, we’ll need him. Saine, Maurice Wells and other back won’t help us against SC. None have the combo speed/power that Beany has. If he doesn’t play at SC, we’re in trouble.

There is plenty of talent in the Buckeye offensive backfield. Tressel’s teams play as a team. This team will do whatever is necessary to win. Championship teams win with great defenses. This year’s squad has a great defense.

Of course, I believe he won’t be 100% until November. That is a tough injury to come back from for anyone let alone a running back.

No, don’t care either. He’ll recover fine.
