OSU holds Ringer to just 67 yards

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Ohio State may have had some lavish defensive schemes in its arsenal for Javon Ringer, but the tactic that held the nation's leading rusher in check is one that works every time: Keep him off the field.
OSU ended the first half with a 28-0 lead and nearly doubled the Spartans in time of possession (19:31 to 10:29). Ringer could do little more than spectate as Terrelle Pryor and Co. took charge in the 45-7 victory.
The Dayton native had just seven carries for 40 yards in the first half and finished with a season-low 67 yards on 16 attempts — the first time this year he's had fewer than 25 carries.
"They've got a good defense," Ringer said. "They've got tremendous, tremendous athletes all across the board — their D-line, linebackers, secondary. Whatever scheme they came up with, it worked.
"This year, we thought we could run the ball more effectively, but when we fell behind, it's hard to pound it because you take so much time off the clock."
