FAIRBORN — Ohio State defensive end Nathan Williams pleaded not guilty to charges he stole shirts from an area mall.
Williams was in a Fairborn Municipal courtroom Tuesday, Dec. 16.
The 19-year-old freshman was arrested on Dec. 10 for shoplifting three shirts valued at $80 from the Macy's department store at Fairfield Commons, according to Beavercreek police.
Williams told police he was with a friend when an alarm went off as they left store. Williams said his friend told him he had stolen three shirts and Williams agreed to take the blame.
Williams said the friend has been in legal trouble before and could have gone to jail if charged with shoplifting.
Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel has been on the road recruiting and has not been available for comment.
If convicted of the first-degree misdemeanor, Williams could face up to six months in jail.
