Game preview UD at UNC

Rebounding, not Tar Heels' reputation, worries Flyers

About North Carolina

The Tar Heels have used impressive team speed and athleticism to win eight straight since an early-season loss to Gonzaga. Forward Tyler Hansbrough is one of the best in the paint, and freshman point guard Ty Lawson is as fast up the floor as anyone in college basketball. North Carolina is young — three of the team's top five scorers are freshmen — but shoots 51.2 percent as a team and wins by an average of 21 points.

Flyer facts

Dayton's No. 1 concern this week is rebounding. The Flyers were outrebounded 45-22 by Pittsburgh last Saturday, and North Carolina averages 43.5 boards per game (12 more than its opponents). ... Although Dayton has just one player (Brian Roberts, 17.2) averaging double figures in points, three others — Monty Scott (9.6), Charles Little (9.3), Norman Plummer (9.2) — average at least nine. ... The Flyers won the team's only previous meeting in the 1967 NCAA tournament semifinals.

Gregory's take

"Obviously it's a great test to play not only one of the best programs in the country right now but to play one of the most historically successful programs in college basketball. You get to play not only the best now, but one of the best of all time." — UD coach Brian Gregory
