DIVISION I REGIONAL trACK
Be a believer: No catching Warriors
Lebanon overtakes loaded 400-meter relay field to blaze a path to state meet.

DAYTON — Not even Trey Bonny's fellow relay members backed him up.
The Lebanon High School sophomore ran the second leg of the Warriors' Division I regional championship 400-meter relay Friday, May 30, at windy Welcome Stadium.
Extras
Before climbing to the top step of the podium, Bonny said he thought victory was possible: "We knew we had a pretty good shot at doing well. We knew in order to get out (of the regional to state), we had to run fast.
"I knew it was possible (to win)," Bonny continued, as Joe MacCutcheon, Logan Norris and Chase Cochran shook their heads sideways and smiled. "But I didn't think it was exactly going to happen."
Moments before, Bonny said to his teammates: "I can't believe we're going to state ... as regional champs!"
Running against usual speed merchants Trotwood-Madison and Wayne, Lebanon ran the relay in 42.31 seconds. The Warriors had good handoffs and benefited when Trotwood couldn't successfully complete its first exchange.
From MacCutcheon to Bonny to Norris to Cochran, Lebanon outran Wayne, Lakota West and Piqua — the other three teams advancing to next week's state meet in Columbus.
"My sister (Bekah, a runner-up in the 100 and 300 hurdles Friday) made it, so I've been up there to watch, but not to run," Bonny said. "It will be exciting. I can't wait."
19 and nonstop
Chaminade-Julienne senior Kelcey McKinney had placed second and fourth at state, but never topped 19 feet in the long jump. And then she did it three times Friday, using the wind to help propel her to a winning effort of 19-4.
"I've been trying for the last two, three years to get 19," said McKinney, a future Ohio State runner who also qualified in the 100. "I just went for it."
