Troy, Centerville win volleyball matches

The Troy High School volleyball team opened its season with a pair of wins Saturday, Aug. 23.
The Trojans defeated Tecumseh 25-7, 25-8 and Tri-County North 25-12, 25-11 in a tri-meet. Lydia Wynkoop led the way with a total of 36 assists in the two matches. Karen Onuki had 23 digs.
Troy is 2-0, Tri-County North 1-1 and Tecumseh 0-2.
Centerville tops C-J: The Elks captured their first win (25-22, 25-21) as Erin Kafka had 21 assists and three aces. Lydia Nemeth chipped in 10 digs.
Boys soccer
Fairmont 3, Alter 2: Sophomore Austen Starr had two goals for the Firebirds, including the game-winner in the second half. Timothy Reiser had two assists for Alter. Fairmont is 2-0, Alter 1-1.
Centerville 2, Westerville North 0: Al Agyris scored the Elks' goals to keep the team's record perfect at 2-0.
Bethel 6, Milton-Union 0: The Bees captured their first win as junior Jon Sutton recorded three goals and an assist.
Carroll 3, Cin. Indian Hill 0: Ben George scored three goals for Carroll as the Patriots shut out Cincinnati Indian Hill. Carroll is 2-0.
Miamisburg 3, Greenville 2: Senior Nathan Wright scored the game-winning goal with 3 minutes, 40 seconds left. The Vikings improve to 1-1-1. Greenville is 1-1-0.
Northwestern 4, Greeneview 3: The Warriors scored four straight goals for their second win. The Rams are 0-2-0.
Girls soccer
Centerville 1, Alter 0: Fallon Vaughan scored the only goal of the match off a pass from Kacie Kumar. Centerville is 2-0. Alter is 0-2.
Bellbrook 5, West Carrollton 0: Kaitlin Weaver and Jessie Jarrett each had two goals for the Goalden Eagles and Susan Schierling had three assists. They are now 2-0-0, the Pirates 0-2-0.
Troy 7, Miami East 0: Michelle Pappas had three goals for the Trojans in their first win. Erin Yenning had two goals and an assist while Julie Pierce had a goal and an assist. Troy is now 1-0-1 and Miami East is 1-1-0.
Cross country
Northwestern Invitational: Northmont's Hannah Turlington won the girls race with a time of 18 minutes, 55 seconds. She led the Thunderbolts to a third-place finish behind winner Northwestern and Tecumseh. The Northmont boys won behind Sam Greer's second-place finish in 16:53.
