Last-play heroics lift Valley View
The Valley View High School football team scored on the last play of the game, a 22-yard touchdown pass from Johnny Day to Justin Griffiths with Michael Boyd adding the decisive extra point, to win at Cincinnati Indian Hill, 42-41, on Friday night, Aug. 29.
This was a matchup between two of the top Division III programs in southwestern part of the state.
Indian Hill had scored with 47 seconds to play on a five-yard run by Jacob Bauer. Valley View's Phil Worrell broke through to block the extra point to make it 41-35.
Valley View took the kickoff and moved down the field for the winning score to improve to 2-0 this season.
Dixie 52, Deer Park 8: The last time the 2-0 Greyhounds put 50 points on the board was the final game of the 2004 season in a 51-21 win over Northridge. It is only the second time in 10 years they hit 50 or more. Nick Worley threw TD passes of 35 yards to Aaron Bingham and 30 to Eddie Bellman. Woody Earles had TD runs of 4 and 20 yards.
Brookville 55, Carlisle 22: The Blue Devils (2-0) scored early and often to take a 29-3 lead in the second quarter.
Piqua 14, Fairfield 7 3 OT: Kendall Taylor caught a 20-yard pass from Cole Selsor for the winning TD for the 1-1 Indians.
Meadowdale 20, Cin. Hughes 6: Robert Tory's second quarter TD passes of 36 yards to Eiljah Douglas and 40 yards to Josh Lynch sparked the 1-1 Lions.
Fairmont 48, Miamisburg 7: Diondre Person ran for 113 yards and four TDs for the 1-1 Firebirds.
Tippecanoe 45, Greenville 19: Allen Comer rushed eight times for 114 yards and two TDs, and he caught two passes for 77 yards, including a 46-yard TD pass from Wes Marsh for the 2-0 Red Devils.
Fort Loramie 53, Dayton Christian 24: Loramie QB Jay Schulze had big night completing 13-of-23 attempts for school-record 354 yards and three TDs. Mitch Raterman had five catches for 179 yards. Jacob Mannix passed for two scores and ran for a third for DC.
Greenon 31, Cedarville 0: Lance Steiner was responsible for the bulk of the points for the 2-0 Knights. He had touchdown runs of 56 and 2 yards as part of 182 yards on 21 carries, kicked four extra points and a 31-yard field goal. Cedarville could never get going on offense with 37 yards rushing on 24 tries and 7 yards passing.
Minster 28, Spg. Catholic Central 6: The Wildcats are 2-0 winning a game that could earn them some valuable points for a postseason playoff run. Ty Whitford had a big rushing night for the second straight week with 142 yards on 21 carries and two first quarter TDs. Central QB Brandon Kelly was 14-of-31 passing for 158 yards and a score for the 1-1 Irish.
Cin. Wyoming 35, Oakwood 21: Wyoming broke the game in Cincinnati open in the third quarter with QB Kyle Seyfried throwing TD passes of 79 and 64 yards. Robby Sherk passed for one score and threw for another for Oakwood (1-1).
Troy 56, Xenia 21: The 2-0 Trojans scored the first two times they touched the ball en route to the easy win. Matt Allen scored on the opening drive to make it 7-0. Xenia fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Allen scored again. Allen had 193 yards rushing. Quarterback Tyler Wright was 7-of-8 passing for 130 yards, and Alex Carter caught five passes for 82 yard and two TDs.
Sidney 47, Bellefontaine 41 OT: Josh Topp had the winning score for the Yellow Jackets on a 2-yard run.
Alter 49, Bellbrook 14: The Knights had no trouble going 2-0.
Lebanon 7, Reynoldsburg 3: Dusty Issacs one yard run 3:37 left was the winning TD for the Warriors as their defense forced two turnovers and had six sacks.
Tecumseh 21, Vandalia Butler 10: Jeremy Strahan, Zeke Eier and Riley Gault had the scored for the 2-0 Arrows.
Fairborn 31, Stebbins 7: QB Adrian Lester threw three touchdown passes for the 1-1 Skyhawks whose defense held Stebbins to 65 yards total offense.
Ansonia 40, National Trail 19: Brandon Liette had 187 yards on 22 carries and Dylan Bubeck 157 on 27 tries for the 1-1 Tigers.
Tri-County North 47, Bethel 17: Kyle Booth had three touchdown passes for the Panthers.
Covington 35, Bradford 7: Garrett Clark had 153 yards on 26 carries for the Buccs.
Miami East 44, Mississinawa Valley 0: Sam Smallwood broke the school career rushing record as he ran 13 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He now has 2,827 yards breaking the record of 2,812 yards by Tim Roddy from 1974-77.
Fenwick 28, Monroe 21: Keeton Daley's 49-yard run with 1:11 remaining was the winning TD for the Falcons.
Sycamore 49, Springboro 17: The Panthers couldn't stop Aviators running back Bud Golden in this game.
Franklin 24, North College Hill 0: The Wildcats posted their first shut out in two years with the win.
St. Henry 44, Spg. Kenton Ridge 0: Jordan Post threw three TD passes and Nick Rindler returned a pass interception 55 yards for a score as the Big Red Machine improved to 2-0.
Greeneview 36, Yellow Springs 12: Blake Benedict had four TD, one a 90-yard kickoff return for the Rams.
