Oakwood put together its best round of the boys high school golf season Wednesday, Sept. 24, to win the Division II sectional at Pipestone Golf Club in Miamisburg.
The Lumberjacks shot a 306, three shots better than second place Alter at 309. Those schools advance to the D-II district next week at Weatherwax in West Middletown, along with Chaminade-Julienne (316) and Brookville (326).
Junior Michael Galaska led the Lumberjacks with a 74, followed by Ronnie Stump (76), Corey Weckerling (77) and Daniel Willis (79). Chad Beatty of Hamilton Badin was the medalist with a 73, followed by Galaska, Jon Neroni of Alter and Michael Day of Brookville at 74.
Beatty is one of four individuals not on advancing teams to move on to district. The others are Alex Nikias (78) and Paul Hinrichs (79) of Fenwick, and Paul Baker of Eaton (79).
Division III boys at Moss Creek (Trotwood): Cross County Conference champion Franklin-Monroe continued to be one of the area's best small schools, winning with a team total of 341. Joining the Jets at the district will be Arcanum (348), National Trail (366) and Bethel (370). Nate Fetishans of F-M was medalist with a 78. Other F-M scorers were Austin Pressley (81), Gavin Glasscoe (88) and T.J. Boutwell 94.
Individuals advancing from the D-III tournament were Nick Swink of Troy Christian (83), Livi Robbins (83) and Nick Koker of Tri-County North 89, and Travis Rodgers of Southeastern (91).
Division II girls at Stillwater Valley (Versailles): Jessie Jordan of Graham and Brooke Albers of Fort Loramie tied for medalist honors, each shooting an 83. Fort Loramie was the team champion with a 387 total, followed by Graham (390), Bellefontaine (418) and Versailles (423). All four teams move on to the district next week. Individual qualifiers were Lizzy Komma of Franklin-Monroe (89), Renee Otte of Covington, Devon Meyer of Arcanum (92) and Amanda Rockhold of Triad (98).
GWOC girls: Centerville won the Greater Western Ohio Conference postseason for the third straight year with a 353 total at the Beechwood Golf Club in Arcanum. Springboro was second at 366, followed by Beavercreek at 380. Alee Everman of Centerville was medalist with an 81, followed by Meghan Schuetz of Springboro and Carmela Pascual of Miamisburg at 85.
Tennis
SWBL Buckeye Division: Waynesville swept all five spots to win the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division championship at Tom Cloud Park in Huber Heights. The Spartans had 59 team points. Preble Shawnee, Northridge and Middletown Madison tied for second with 32.
Waynesville champions were Alyssa Ritchie (No. 1 singles), Lydia Sizemore (No. 2 singles), Kayla Sizemore (No. 3 singles), Ashley and Brooke Cornett (No. 1 doubles) and Alanna Stewart/Emily Michael (No. 2 doubles).
