Springfield High School officials are gathering information to give to the Ohio High School Athletic Association following an altercation at the Wildcats' football game on Friday, Oct. 10.
Springfield's game with Fairmont at Evans Stadium was halted with 2:50 left in the second quarter after both teams left the sidelines. Two officials were treated for injuries by school staff, but returned to finish the game.
Fairmont won 15-8 in double overtime.
Springfield Athletic Director Mark Stoll said he will contact the OHSAA after all the information is organized. He said he is looking for more video evidence.
"With everything that was going on, it's tough to see," Stoll said. "We have to get different videos, and we want the state and the officials to look at it as well."
Fairmont Athletic Director Brian Donoher said his school is handling the matter internally. "I don't see anything that needs to be reviewed," Donoher said. "I saw the tape. I didn't see a brawl. It was just somewhat of a scuffle, I thought."
Springfield sophomore Trey DePriest was on the field playing defense when the fight began, and he was ejected. OHSAA rules state a player or coach ejected forfeits participation in the next contest.
DePriest's ejection will be appealed, Stoll said.
