Coldwater in regional semifinal

Coldwater got off to a good start toward defending its Division IV state high school football championship Friday, Oct. 31.

The Cavs shut out Cincinnati North College Hill 42-0 in the first round of the D-IV, Region 16 playoffs.

The state's No. 1 D-IV team is now 11-0 with a 24-game winning streak. Their next opponent will be Oakwood, which defeated Plain City Jonathan Alder 12-10.

All of the regional semifinals next Friday and Saturday will be at neutral sites. Game locations will be announced by the Ohio High School Athletic Association on Sunday.

Coldwater led 35-0 at halftime. Quarterback Cory Klenke had a hand in all the scoring. He threw three touchdown passes, two to Tony Harlamert of 10 and 31 yards, and ran for two other scores on short runs.

The Cavs defense held North College Hill to 17 yards rushing.

Hamilton Badin 33, Clinton-Massie 27 OT: The Rams blew a 27-7 fourth-quarter lead in their Division IV, Region 16 game at Clinton-Massie, but rallied to pull out a 33-27 win in overtime when Zach Toerner hit Jake Wurzelbacher with a 22-yard touchdown pass.

The win moves Badin (8-3) into a regional semifinal game against Alter, which beat the Rams 56-7 earlier this season. Clinton-Massie closes out at 10-1.

C-M's Logan McCormick returned a punt 52 yards to the Badin 32 with 45 seconds left in the game and then ran in for the game-tying touchdown with 17.7 ticks remaining. He finished with 105 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Toerner finished 20-of-30 for 255 yards and two touchdowns and also ran 27 times for 57 yards and two scores.

Cin. Winton Woods 58, Dunbar 12: The Wolverines (8-3) fell behind 28-0 in the second quarter of this Division II, Region 8 game in suburban Cincinnati.

Their only scores came on a 58-yard pass from Steven White to Terrence Glenn and a 45-yard run by Tavion Wright.

Winton Woods (10-1) gets Kings, a 27-24 winner over Cincinnati Turpin in the regional semifinals.

The other semi will have 11-0 Tecumseh, a 44-21 winner over Western Brown, against defending state champion Cincinnati Anderson, which defeated Edgewood 55-7.

Lehman Catholic, 42, Ansonia 0: The Cavs (9-1) used big plays in the third quarter to break open this Division VI, Region 24 game. They led 14-8 at half, but exploded for 28 third-quarter points. Max Cartwright scored on runs of 50, 85 and 51 yards and David Spearman caught a 38-yard TD pass from Kameron Barton. Cartwright had 208 yards rushing on seven carries. Lehman gets Springfield Catholic Central in the next round.

Spg. Catholic Central 28, Portsmouth Sciotoville 19: The Irish (8-3) scored 28 unanswered points after going down 19-0 in the second quarter. Junior Pat Sheehan had two touchdowns including the eventual winner on a 4-yard run with 4:20 left in the contest played in Portsmouth.

Covington 56, Lockland 12: Garrett Clark ran for 177 yards and four touchdowns as the Buccs (9-2) had no problem posting the D-VI, Region 24 win at home. They had 411 yard rushing as a team.

Next up will be Mechanicsburg (11-0), a 42-0 winner over New Miami.
