Berger takes football reins at West Carrollton

Dayton Daily News

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Rob Berger is the new head football coach at West Carrollton High School. He replaces Bob Brigati who is retiring at the end of the school year after 37 years coaching.

He has been an assistant in program for 10 years, the last five as defensive coordinator.

A 1994 graduate of Versailles High School, he was a backup quarterback and starting defensive back on the Tigers' state championship team. He is a graduate of Ohio University with a Masters Degree from the University of Dayton and teaches eighth-grade American history.

"There's a lot of positive energy in the program right now," he said. "We won our last four games of the year (after starting 0-5), With a couple breaks we could have beaten Miamisburg (a 14-11 loss), Greenville (a 2-0 loss), been 6-3 and maybe looking at a shot at the playoffs."

Berger was one of two members on the staff to apply for the position which was not opened up to candidates outside the West Carrollton school system.

The West Carrollton administration will begin interviewing either late this week or early next week for the vacant athletic director's position.
