THE AUDIBLE

President Bush as a baseball commissioner?

By Jim Morris

Here are some thoughts to munch on as you consume your Tuesday morning mocha latte:

• A few days ago, a popular talk show host was discussing the possibility of the next commissioner of baseball being none other than President George W. Bush.

Extras

Can you imagine that? If that happened, he'd really find out what having power is all about.

Wonder if he's ever heard of Pete Rose?

• Speaking of radio talk shows, I couldn't believe all the badmouthing going on after the Cavs lost to the Spurs in the NBA finals last week.

You would have thought — from listening to just about every radio analyst — that LeBron James was the worst basketball player ever to appear in an NBA finals.

How stupid is that?

What other player, at the tender age of 22, could have accomplished what James did in 2007?

The kid's a great star ... and will be after those analysts are long forgotten.

• The Sunday night baseball announcers on ESPN were discussing the Yankees' need for a first baseman with Doug Mientkiewicz on the disabled list. How about Scott Hatteberg for a top Yankee pitching prospect? That puts Joey Votto on first base for the Reds.

If the Reds decided it was Homer Bailey's time to make his big-league debut, isn't it also Votto's?

• Didn't Adam Dunn's Little League coach bother to tell him: "Adam, when you have two strikes on you, you have to swing at anything that is close."

Apparently not.
