Outdoors is better, but Wii Tennis is a winner
Sunday, October 07, 2007
One of my daily reads is Darren Rovell's sports business blog at cnbc.com. This week, he had an interesting entry about the Nintendo Wii, tennis racket maker Prince and the state of video gaming.
First a word on the Wii. I had my first experience with it on Tuesday when I had dinner at a friend's place and he introduced me to the Tiger Woods golf game. I was addicted. Eventually, his wife had to basically ask us to stop.
Extras
So we're clear, I love the Wii.
The Nintendo gang has a game called Wii Tennis, which is apparently one of its most popular. Well, Prince has noticed the amazing popularity of the video gaming system and partnered with a company to design a frame for the Wii controller that looks like a racket. Basically, if you're playing Wii Tennis, now you can have an actual racket in your hand.
I feel the same about this as I do about the Golden Tee-like game in bars and restaurants that simulates cornhole. Is it really that difficult to just set up the boards and play outside?
Again, you're looking at a big fan of video gaming and the Wii. But if you have something that looks like a racket in your hand and a desire to play tennis, feel free to find a court. They're free, and they're everywhere.
Then again, I have a funny feeling Wii Tennis is going to be my next addiction.
