Mangold will be working, uh, closely with Favre
Friday, August 08, 2008
A few leftover Brett Favre-related items not suffocatingly covered by the four-letter network:
• Favre's going to get real familiar with Nick Mangold's, uh, personality. The Alter High School grad and Centerville native is the Jets center and figures to be working closely with the future Hall of Famer. No word if Mangold has talked to A.J. Hawk about the whole saga.
• The Madden 2009 cover (it's still 2008, right?) is already outdated. It has Brett Favre on the cover in a green No. 4 jersey — but it's the Packers, not the Jets. Maybe if you white-out the pants, some stripes and the helmet, it will look about right — or sickening to Packers fans.
• By Thursday morning, you could already order a Brett Favre replica jersey on the Jets official Web site. He was listed on the official roster, but without a number assigned.
• What do you want to bet that Favre actually gets hurt this year? The streak could end against the Bengals in Week 6 — full circle from 1992. Even juicier would be when Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gets dinged, backup Brian Brohm trots in.
• Speaking of the Packers, their Web site is selling "memorabilia" that includes a tribute photo in an Italian lacquer frame with suede matting signed by Favre. But hurry, even at $999, there are fewer than 10 left!
• When Favre plays for the Jets, he'll automatically be that franchise's best-ever QB. Seriously, look at Joe Namath's stats: Two(!) postseason wins, 50.1 completion percentage, 173 touchdowns vs. 220 picks. Had two big years and made the Hall of Fame on a monumental game in which he didn't throw a TD pass.
