Raiders exec refutes report that Martindale was offered head coach position

ESPN.com on Sunday reported that Oakland Raiders linebackers coach and Trotwood-Madison High School graduate Don Martindale interviewed with owner Al Davis over the weekend for the Raiders' vacant head coach position.

However, Raiders senior executive John Herrera disputed the story.

"Once again ESPN has chosen to air something that has no basis in fact," said Herrera to the San Jose Mercury News.

"It is true that Mr. Davis met with Martindale (on Saturday) ... but it had nothing to do with (Martindale) becoming a head coach."

Martindale has been the Raiders' linebackers coach since joining the club in 2004. He reportedly has been offered Oakland's defensive coordinator position.

Martindale, 45, is a 1981 T-M grad.
