Circle Thursday, Nov. 30 on your calendar — then draw a line through it if you want to stay home to watch the Cincinnati Bengals play host to the Baltimore Ravens.
That game will be broadcast by the new NFL Network, which is available locally by satellite only and not on Time Warner Cable or WHIO, which normally carries the NFL's CBS games.
Extras
According to the NFL Network agreement, primary local affiliates may bid on the game. Cincinnati NBC affiliate Channel 5 outbid CBS affiliate Channel 12. Dayton is considered a secondary market, so stations here were not offered an option.
"I won't tell you what we bid for that game, but Channel 5 outbid us," said Rick Wagar of Channel 12, which can salve its wounds by airing the reality show Survivor that night as one of the top two Survivor markets in the country.
Yes, the NFL Network exacts a fee to local stations to air the Thursday games, and it can reach into six figures.
