CINCINNATI — What does the signing of Lemar Marshall mean to the Bengals linebacker corps?
Let's turn to "Mr. Bengal" — Dave Lapham — for the answer.
Lapham, the former Bengals' offensive lineman (1974-83), is in his 22nd season as the analyst on Bengals radio broadcasts.
"It means that everybody has to pick it up," Lapham said. "Guys that thought maybe they had it made may not have it made as easily as they thought.
"Lemar is another guy to compete for a job. (Head coach Marvin Lewis) knows all about him. He gives them a lot of versatility. He's like Landon Johnson, but a more experienced Landon. He can play every linebacker position and special teams."
A former strong safety who had stints with Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Denver, Marshall's first season as a full-time linebacker came with Washington in 2002 when Lewis was the Redskins' defensive coordinator.
"(Lewis) means a lot to me," Marshall said. "He really helped me and developed me as a linebacker. I was only with him for one year, but I learned a lot."
Bengals waive 2
The Bengals on Friday waived (injured) two first-year tight ends — Bobby Blizzard and Sean Mulcahy.
Blizzard, from North Carolina, has been out with a back injury. Mulcahy, from Connecticut, has been out with a neck injury.
If they are not claimed by another team, they will revert to the Bengals' Injured Reserve list for continued rehabilitation.
