CINCINNATI — Buffalo Bills safety Donte Whitner is a heavy hitter with a heart of gold.

The former Ohio State star is sponsoring an expenses-paid spa visit for four single mothers in the Buffalo and Cleveland areas.

Extras

"My mom was a single-parent mom," he said. "She raised five kids on her own, working three jobs. She dedicated all her time, money and effort to me and my younger siblings. I remember coming home, and she was dead tired, and she was still cooking and getting us ready for school.

"I just want to give back to those moms who do so much for their kids."

Whitner is accepting applications through an e-mail address — Team20fan@gmail.com. The deadline is Monday.

"The best moms with the best stories who tell how much they've done for their kids and how much they love their kids will win," he said. "If I can't choose just four, I'll up the number.

"They get a pampered day with a meal and the full spa treatment — hair, massage, nails ... whatever they want."

Double dose

Tailbacks Rudi Johnson (hamstring) and Kenny Watson (concussion) practiced fully Thursday in preparation for Sunday's game at Buffalo.

"We'll just integrate them both into the game plan and go from there," head coach Marvin Lewis said.

Back in the saddle

Quarterback J.P. Losman will start in place of Trent Edwards, who suffered a wrist injury in Buffalo's 13-3 triumph over the New York Jets.

Losman threw an 85-yard TD pass to Lee Evans in the fourth quarter to seal that victory.

"J.P. is an athletic guy who can move around and make plays, especially when he's out of the pocket," Bengals defensive end Justin Smith said.

Price not right

Peerless Price, the Bills' wide receiver from Meadowdale High School, was placed on injured reserve Oct. 20 after successful surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck.

Price, a nine-year NFL veteran from the University of Tennessee, had seven catches for 68 yards (a 9.7 average) at the time of his injury.

Quick hitter

Evans (5 catches, 138 yards against the Jets) became the first Bills wide receiver to score this season and record a 100-yard game.
