Wednesday, November 07, 2007
Bengals RB Chris Perry was medically cleared on Tuesday to begin practicing with the team on a roster exemption. Perry had been on the physically unable to perform list after fracturing an ankle at Cleveland on Nov. 26, 2006.
After a three-week practice window, Perry must either be activated to the 53-man roster, placed on injured reserve or released. The Bengals also signed former Auburn TE Cooper Wallace to the practice squad.

The problem is the bengals need three things 1.A pass rush get off the DB’s any QB with 5 or 6 seconds to throw the ball will burn any good DB’s, 2. Throw short passes not every pass play has to be 15 plus yards down the field, a 5 yard pass to your tight end every now and then is as good as a long hand off remember the San Fran 49ers in the 80’s they nickle and dime defense’s with short passes. Quit running rudy wide he does not have the speed to get wide any more quick hitters is his best shot

The way I see it is. We have lost a several of the core players due to injury and FA that made our special teams good. That is one problem. Another of course is all the injuries in general to key players. The suspensions of the knuckleheads are a distraction and hurt the team by not being able to contribute on the field. The Defense is basically Defenseless and a total mess. The DC needs to go! The offense is not very creative and need a bit of a face lift. Evaluate everything. coaches and playe

As far as the runnning game mix it up with dorsey , he is a quick little scat back who seems to make plays. As far as the rest pick and choose there all interchangable , we can give up 588 points with tackling dummies, no need to pay for it.

I would move the team to Canton, Ohio because every opponent we play leaves the game with stats worthy of the Hall of Fame. I would hire a consultant to draft players because the Bengals management has selected one all-pro in the last 21 years. Finally, before draft day I would check my list against the Police blotters within 50 miles of the players last reseidence.

The bungels need to get rid of chuck bresnahan and bob bratowski. the coordinators. chuck dosent blitz anymore and bob cant ever call the right play like on 3rd an 7 he goes run up the middle. we need to run a play action pass and throw it deep to chad or across the middle to t.j. they are probably the best wide receiver duo in all of the N.F.L. If they get a good left side of there offensive line then carson might have some time to throw it to those guys.

I have been a Bengal fan since 68 , until they find a coach as knowledgable as Paul Brown, and with the balls to go with it they will never have the defense & offense to win. Yes Lewis has had bad luck in the draft, Pollack/Thurman comes to mind, great talent lost. But PB won and put good teams on the field with bad luck [Greg Cook]. The O_Line is okay, QB should be a hall of famer, defense sucks, come on Marvin thats your fortay, stop someone, take over if your coach’s can’t or hire Le’Beau

Yes the offense needs to utilize the play action pass, especially since Chris Henry is back. The defense just kills me.We are so plain vanilla it makes me sick . The pass rush is pathetic.I agree we don’t have the “studs” that some other defensive teams have, but the scheme is putrid. If our talent isn’t quite where we want it,then why don’t we get more creative. Why can’t we move our backers up to line of scrimmage and jump around bit more to keep the offense guessing(i.e,pats, steelers)then blitz!

Some basic observations about the offense. If you look at most successful offenses they are balanced between run and pass. However most of them use an effective “Play Action” pass attack . Even though Carson is putting up fairly decent numbers, how many times do we not connect on a crucial 3rd down. I can think of several. How many times have we seen Big Ben use play action to hit one “Hines Ward” on a slant patten. Think back to “Boomer” and his awesome play fakes then hitting Eddie Brown.

For all you people who call for the Bengals to blitz more . If you cannot get to the quarterback when you blitz ,whats the use . I agree this season is over . The only thing they are playing for now is where they will draft next year .I think they need to clean house on defense. Both players and cordinators need to go . They need lineman who can pass rush linebackers who can tackle and db who can cover .I would give MR Lewis 2 more years to turn this around or he can go also .

Interesting. At 9:04 this morning I suggest on here that the Bengals sign the best blocking TE they can find. I get home this evening and what do you know? The Bengals have signed a 6’7 255 lb. TE. The three headed GM and Marvin must be reading this.

GFM - let me give you the facts you ignore….the bengals have lost 14 of their last 21, are 31st in total defense, can’t tackle, continue to draft players who are no good (leon hall). Clearly marvin is doing a great job! I wouldnt trust you or tony to run the wafflehouse that you both work at.

what we need to do is everyone should stop paying these outrageous prices to these cry baby overpaid so alled pro football players so they cant hold up their teams for all the money they get and when they are forced to earn their money like the rest of us they might not have time to be in trouble with the law all the time.i wouldnt spend a dollar to see any of them

Voice of the stupid……Tony’s right….the first thing Marvin should do is tell the media hacks in this town who are wannabe athletes anyway to “shut the hell up and know your role”!!! this isn’t New York or boston and no one cares about the media. marvin forever, wannabe athletes and media hacks never……….stand up marvin, dont run like Frank robinson…….fight back

Conservative defense works well for good defenses.
With our defense, BLITZ BLITZ BLITZ. If you get burned a couple of times a game from this, so what? At least it is better than 5 minute drives that end in touchdowns anyway!

Tony - Yes, “none of the people talking about fixing the Bengals have NEVER put on a helmet”…brilliant use of the English language. Let me clue you in on a secret, radio and newspaper columnists are paid to sell newspapers and create conversation (OH, and not butcher the english language like you do). Unfortunately, Chick couldn’t do any worse than the current management and coaching staff of this franchise. Its people like you, who continue to apologize for this team, that have no clue.

Sam Wyche was a mean SOB. He made the players stay in a cincy hotel the night before the game and he personally tucked their butts in Forest Gregg also a mean SOB Paul Brown put up with NOTHING
Since then we hire nice guys like Shula, Lebeau, and Lewis
Anybody see a problem here?
Hire the meanest SOB coach that is available like Ditka or Cowher. We could have hired a mean coach like Tom C that is in New York and winning … but we went with the nice guy Lewis.
Now we have chaos

I agree with turning the offense loose. Carson, Chad, T.J., Henry is back, Holt has been a pleasure…use them. Let Watson catch some out of the backfield, build on your strengths, throw the ball. When the Defense holds someone to a field goal, consider it a triumph and send in the point scorers.

This team is not disciplined enough to run the type of passing attack mentioned above. Our receivers have been dropping passes left and right, running bad routes, and Carson has struggled with his accuracy at times this year. Opening up the passing offense and running the no-huddle will only increase 3 and outs, run no time off the clock, and get our horrible defense back on the field quicker. Limit the defense’s exposure by running high percentage plays and control time of possession.

The Off and Def coordinators need to be changed. Marvin is relying on them to do their job and they are not doing it.Pay me half of what they are making and I guantee we will get more than 2 wins in 8 games.

If the Steelers do not bliz, they are an average def.Look at the Patriots, Vrable at olb has 8 sacks. You need to put the pressure on the QB. If you were watching the Buffalo game, Losman had all day to pass. DB is probrably the most difficult position to play in football, especially when the QB has all day to pass.It comes down to the Def. Def wins games. The Bengals is conservative on Off and Def, and this is turning into losses.

If we had henry on the field it would take the pressure of Chad and TJ and to improve on our Offense throw Holt out the there on the off chance Henry TJ or Chad are not open he should be they cant double cover every WR out there, Then you Run watson he was 16 for 133 yards cmon people, So our best shot is a Man/Zone coverage with the line in a 4-3 formation pack the line, LBs read for pass or run then act appropiatly, -( comment below [ If we -DONT- rush the pass] just noticed the typo)- WHO DEY

Justin Smith, is not worth 8 million a year. He is a good player but 8 a year. The Bengals need a new offensive coordinator to open the offense up. The no huddle is not a true no huddle. Def. where do I start, Joseph acts like he does not even care when he gets burned, which has happen often. We need a new def. skeem, we do not bliz. Whithout blizzing we make these sub par QB’s look like all pros. We do not put enough pressure on the other teams offense.

We need to discipline our secondary improve tackling and GET A LINE on offense & defense, if Carson had 5-6 seconds to throw the ball like Manning or Brady he would be the #1 QB in the NFL, and defensivly speaking we need Thurman, I stress NEED. If we rush the pass then Delthea, JJ, Dexter, Madieu are unable to fulfill the job of our seconday style - INTERCEPTIONS - what happened to leading the NFL in takeways? Next where was HENRY in the buffalo game, people dont know this but TD per 4.5 recs!

Isn’t it obvious that Chick has been listening to FOOLS like Gregg Doyel and lance Mccalister? These are the same dumb suggestion that those fools have talked about. Ironically, none of the people talking about fixing the Bengals have NEVER PUT ON A FOOTBALL HELMET BEFORE. The geeks are on the loose. Shut up Chick and straighten out your glasses.

A hurry up offense will ensure the Bengals defense spends even more time on the field. Not a good idea. My suggestion, let Carson call the plays, pick up the best blocking tight end you can find and go full protection as often as possible, and shorten up most but not all of the pass routes. The goal is to possess the ball as long as possible. On defense I like the idea of putting guys at their natural position and if a vet isn’t getting a job done go to the young guys. Simplify everything!

How long does it take to build a defense? We’ve drafted defense every year, but between off the field problems, injuries and just plain lousy players, it’s not paid off. Maybe it’s just poor player evaluation, bad luck, whatever, but enough is enough. We’re regressing back to the nineties. We’re back to calling for Mike Brown’s head again. I’m tired of it. How about we see if Bill Cowher is available? My solution: I think that I will start rooting for the Colts.

What is up with the unadulterated love with John Thorton??? You media guys give him a pass all time, because he is a “boy scout”, meanwhile he is the most uneffective DL we have had here, dump him in favor of someone who can actually get through an offensive line on occasion. I agree with all you statemnets Chick expect I am not ready yet to throw in the towel on Rucker, just have not seen enough of him to give up yet, and the Bengals ALWAYS give up too early on guys that eventually become good.

Spread the field and throw every down. This team has to score 45+ to have any chance at all. Let Palmer loose and see what happens. It can’t be any worse. Get the ball to Chris Henry. He is a scoring machine and should be heathy and ready to roll. Also, I just picked him up on my fantasy team.

Looking to “08” since this season is over with! What is gonna happen to our RB’s(C.Perry,K.Irons, R&J Johnson, K. Watson, D.Dorsey)? Who’s in and Who’s out? Also, where’s the help gone come from for our defense? All these guys are free agents: Deltha O, Bryan R, Justin S, Madieu W, Landon J, Caleb M, and i believe John Thorton, albeit none of these guys are All Pro, but how do you replace all of this? Thanks for your response.
