Bengals midseason report card
Wednesday, November 07, 2007
Offense: B — The passing game is solid, but the running game is weak because of the musical chairs on the offensive line.
Defense: F — This unit is struggling in all phases — run defense, pass coverage and pass rush. It yields too many explosive plays.
Extras
Special teams: D — Aside from Glenn Holt's 100-yard kickoff return, there's been little to cheer about from these units.
Coaching: F — Player performance is lacking. So is on-field discipline. The coaching staff is responsible for this debacle.
Overall: D — You get what you deserve in this league and the Bengals deserve 2-6 as the NFL's most disappointing team.
Changes coming in 2008
The contracts of 11 Bengals veterans are due to expire at the end of the 2007 season. Unless they sign extensions, all of them will go on the open market as unrestricted free agents in the spring. Many of them are not expected back.
