Chad, T.J. take turns resting up for Ravens
Friday, November 09, 2007
CINCINNATI — Bengals wide receivers T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson pulled the ol' switcheroo this week.
Houshmandzadeh returned to practice on Thursday after resting his knee on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Johnson had Thursday off after wearing a padded neck roll to protect his injured neck during practice on Wednesday.
Extras
Quarterback Carson Palmer hopes to have both wide receivers available today in preparation for Sunday's game at Baltimore.
"(Palmer) has had to work with young guys in there at practice," coach Marvin Lewis said. "That's a little hard. If you go out there everyday and have the same guys, it makes it easy on everybody."
Perfect smile
Wide receiver Glenn Holt can smile again after having his two front teeth capped by an oral surgeon. The teeth were knocked out during an end zone celebration at Buffalo when linebacker Dhani Jones' helmet slammed into Holt's facemask.
"They did a really good job on my teeth," Holt said. "They're just sensitive right now. I can eat, but not steak or ribs or anything real tough."
Major factor
Turnovers are a big reason why the Bengals have just one win in their last seven games. In those seven games, the team's turnover ratio is minus-five, bringing the midseason total to minus-one, tied for 18th with the Ravens.
Red-zone report
The Bengals have 14 TDs and eight field goals among their 24 trips inside the opponents' 20-yard line.
Wide receiver Chris Henry wants to put kicker Shayne Graham's foot to rest with more TDs in the red zone.
"I think our red-zone offense is fine," Houshmandzadeh said. "(Henry) will just enhance that. He can only help us. It'll be good for us as a team."
Record pace
• Palmer (2,193) is on pace to total 4,386 passing yards, which would surpass his franchise record of 4,035 in 2006.
• Houshmandzadeh (62 catches) is on pace for a team-record 124, which would be the second-highest season total in NFL history.
• Johnson has 779 receiving yards and is on pace (1,558) to top his club record of 1,432 set in 2005.
