Palmer's brother aims for Bengals backup job
> Do you think it's a good move by the Bengals?
Thursday, January 31, 2008
Quarterbacks Carson and Jordan Palmer will have an opportunity to make history in 2008.
If Jordan lands on the Bengals' 53-man active roster as a backup to Carson, the Palmers will be the first brother-quarterback tandem to play on the same team since the Super Bowl era began in the 1966 season.
Extras
The Bengals signed Jordan to a two-year contract on Wednesday. He'll compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jeff Rowe for two roster spots behind Carson.
Texas-El Paso's career passing leader in yards (11,084) and TDs (88), Jordan was Washington's sixth-round pick in the 2007 draft. The Redskins waived him Sept. 1.
"So much with a quarterback is mental," Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said. "If he knows things well enough to where he can anticipate and get the ball out, he's certainly got enough arm talent to do it. The mental aspect will be the most challenging part from the beginning.
"(Fitzpatrick and Rowe) are a step ahead mentally. So it'll be up to him to catch up and show us, physically and mentally, that he's going to earn some of those practice snaps and preseason snaps as well."
The Bengals nearly drafted Jordan in 2007.
"Between Carson and his parents, they felt it probably wouldn't be a comfortable situation," Bratkowski said. "Now that he was out there and looking for a place to catch on, everybody's reassessed their feelings. He's going to be here and have an opportunity."

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, there have been no brother QB tandems to play on the same team in the Super Bowl era. Koy and Ty Detmer were members of the Philadelphia Eagles' squad in 1997, but Koy spent the season on the injured reserve list.

By the way, Chick is a hack and Marvin HATES him! Good thing Chick was tight with Paul because Marvin would kick his sorry a*s to the curb if he had the choice.

You bloggers are stupid! Does it really matter who backs up Carson? If Carson doens’t play I don’t care if it’s Jordan Palmer, Arnold Palmer or fricken Santa Clause! Get a life boys!

i like jordan, i watched him when he played at utep. hes got some good stuff so i thnk that the bengals should sign him. i have liked the bengals for so many years i think its about time to get a new backup so the team should sign him and get a deal and hopfully have a spot in the roster during the season.

I think that it is a good idea because we will have the chance to be the first team to have both brothers on the same team in the super bowl era. so i think that jordan will be a good backup instead of the one they had this year and he should get some playing time in the preseason.

What a lovely story! Brothers re-united in Cincy…..how nice! Is Jordan able to play linebacker or d-line? That is the only way he could help this team. Now they have to pay him to hold a clipboard for 2 years? Brilliant!!!!

The question that is posed should only be answered in light of another question - ie. Did the move make the Bengals a better football team?

Why did Cincy draft a QB last year??? This is precisely why this franchise continues to struggle! How about a tight end? Maybe mix in a few linebackers and d-linemen? Good thing we didn’t sign Steinbach huh? This franchise is not capable of making a good decision under its current leadership.

The only advantage is that you get the qb position with 24/7 coverage from the players. The question is how far will Jordan push Carson? More importantly, how will the offensive line protect? The Bengals need defensive help more than anything else at the moment. Hopefully the new coordinator will work.

First, let me admit to being a Bengal fan, but… how do you give a 2 year contract to a guy that was cut by a team who thinks Jason Campbell is an NFL qb? After Washington released him, he ended up in the arena league. Bengals, please!!!!!! Give your long suffering fans something to have hope in. The only cure for this team’s problems would be for Mike Brown to hire a true GM and then ban himself from any contact with the team or it’s operations.
