The most high-profile substitute teacher at Wantz Middle School is getting an opportunity to try out in his quest to be an NFL free safety.

Kevin Hoyng, the former University of Dayton quarterback from Coldwater High School, will work out for the Cincinnati Bengals on March 14 in Dayton, three days after he participates in Bowling Green State University's Pro Day in front of NFL scouts on Tuesday, March 11.

Extras

Despite not playing a down of defensive back at UD, Hoyng is receiving attention from a prominent scouting service.

NFLDraftScout.com ranks Hoyng the 46th best free safety out of 134 draft-eligible players at his position. If he doesn't get drafted in April, he could land in an NFL training camp as a college free agent.

"It's nice to know that people on the national level know about you and have positive thoughts that, hey, this kid can play," Hoyng said on his school lunch break Monday. "I realize I haven't played DB yet, but I feel like I'm athletic enough and have the ability to do it."

Hoyng, who works out six days a week at UD, studied tapes of the recent NFL Combine drills. He wasn't invited to the Combine, but went anyway with his agent, Ron Todd, to Indianapolis, where he met coaches and scouts from numerous NFL teams.
